Abstract

This presentation explores culturally responsive approaches to elevating student engagement and career readiness through tailored programming. The session examines how designing student activities and career development initiatives with cultural sensitivity can significantly enhance participation, belonging, and professional preparedness among diverse student populations. Drawing from successful implementation experiences, the presenters will share practical strategies for creating inclusive programming that addresses the unique needs of international students while developing essential employment skills.

Rajat Virdi, Yorkville University

Rajat Virdi currently shoulders the position of Student Activities Coordinator at Yorkville University, BC Campus. He graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Publishing (with Co-op Experience). With a strong background in outreach, events, and engagement, he feels privileged to have witnessed the profound impact that quality education and learning has on students' lives. Guided by this student-centric philosophy, he firmly believes that education extends beyond the confines of the classroom and is driven by curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.

Akshay Arora, Yorkville University

Akshay Arora is a Career Advisor at Yorkville University, and a member of the Content and Learning Committee at CERIC. With a background in engineering and a strong foundation in change management, he excels at transforming complex ideas into engaging, student-centered learning experiences putting career development at core. Passionate about cultural competency and rural career development, Akshay designs inclusive programs that address the diverse needs of students. By bridging gaps in existing career education models, he fosters equitable opportunities, empowering individuals to navigate their careers with confidence and purpose.
