Abstract

This presentation introduces the concept of 'Pracademics' as an effective approach for bridging theoretical knowledge and practical application in higher education. The session explores how integrating practical industry experience with academic expertise creates more relevant and engaging learning experiences for students. The presenters will share strategies for developing pracademic teaching approaches, building industry-education partnerships, and designing experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for real-world challenges while maintaining academic rigor.

Sally-Ann Burnett, Acsenda School of Management

Dr. Sally-Ann Burnett is the Senior Vice-President at Acsenda School of Management with responsibility for leading the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship. She has a Professorship in Higher Education Leadership and is a higher education consultant with extensive experience as an academic leader in the UK and in Canada. She played a significant senior executive role for more than a decade at BPP - England's first private, for-profit university. She has had a varied, extensive and interesting career across commerce and higher education, including several significant academic leadership roles.

Andy Basi, Acsenda School of Management

Dr. Andy Basi, Senior Vice-President at Acsenda School of Management is a respected, hands-on leader who is focused on making a difference - A dynamic leader with expertise in healthcare, post-secondary education and not for profit agencies. He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership -- Post-secondary from Simon Fraser University, an MBA and is a certified healthcare executive (CHE) with over 30 years of experience driving positive change in public and private organizations. Dr. Basi is enthusiastic about supporting faculty training and professional development for individuals and teams. He is committed to advancing education through innovative strategies with a focus on learner-centric approaches.
