Addressing the Crossroads of Support and Inclusion for International Students in BC

Abstract

This research-in-progress paper examines the complex challenges faced by international students in British Columbia at the intersection of support services and cultural inclusion. The presentation introduces a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) framework designed to enhance equity and inclusion for diverse international student populations. The session will explore practical strategies for implementing SEL principles within institutional support structures to better address international students' unique needs, foster belonging, and promote academic success.

Donna Chowdhury, Yorkville University

Donna Chowdhury is an educator, researcher, and industry professional with expertise in HR and Construction Management. Her work spans Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belongingness (DEIB), Indigenization in Higher Education, and Sustainable Construction and Housing Affordability. As a full time faculty member at the esteemed Yorkville University, she integrates teaching, curriculum development, and research to uphold signature learning outcomes. Committed to bridging theory and practice, Donna translates academic insights into real-world industry solutions.
