Abstract

This presentation explores an innovative approach to library orientation through the implementation of an educational escape room experience. The session will share the design process, learning objectives, implementation strategies, and assessment outcomes of this gamified library introduction. The presenters will discuss how puzzle-based learning enhances student engagement with library resources, improves information literacy skills, and creates positive associations with academic support services. Practical guidance for institutions interested in developing similar experiential learning activities will be provided.

Lucas Paganine, LaSalle College Vancouver

Lucas Paganine is a Brazilian Library Technician with a Bachelor of Library Science, supplemented by diplomas in web/software development. Lucas brings a diverse professional background in libraries, software development, and data analysis, which informs his approach with a user-centered, data-driven perspective.

Ryan Kyle, LaSalle College Vancouver

Ryan Kyle, Director of Library Services and Learning Commons, holds a MLIS from the University of Western Ontario and participates in several academic and interdepartmental committees, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Committee, and the AI Taskforce. Recently, he has been collaborating with architects, technology specialists, and external partners, on developing a new learning commons facility.
