Abstract

This presentation examines the critical factors that drive successful organizational change in higher education during periods of dramatic transformation. Drawing on comprehensive research and practical experience, the presenters will analyze the essential elements that enable educational institutions to effectively navigate complex change initiatives. Key focus areas include stakeholder engagement strategies, communication frameworks, leadership approaches, and resistance management techniques specifically adapted for the unique dynamics of academic environments.

Eli Sopow, University Canada West

Eli Sopow, Ph.D. is Professor of Change Management and Leadership courses within the Leadership and People Management faculty, University Canada West. Formerly Director of Research including national employee workplace surveys (20 years) with the RCMP Operations Strategy Branch B.C. including two years as Director of Research with the national RCMP change management initiative. Formerly vice-president & partner with a management consulting and Associate Deputy Minister, Premier's Office, Gov't B.C.

Maria Sushkova, University Canada West

Maria Sushkova, Ph.D., is a faculty member at University Canada West, teaching Leadership in the Global Context within the Leadership and People Management faculty. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and a background in Integrated Marketing Strategy from the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. Her experience spans academia and industry, including roles in strategic marketing, branding, and corporate training with organizations such as Pfizer and the Construction Labour Relations Association of BC.
