Abstract

This full research paper examines how legitimacy is constructed, performed, and contested in academic spaces of power. Drawing on intersectional theory and empirical research, the presentation analyzes how academics from diverse backgrounds negotiate belonging within institutions historically dominated by particular social groups. The research highlights strategies employed to establish legitimacy, the psychological impacts of exclusionary practices, and approaches for creating more equitable academic environments where diverse forms of knowledge and experience are valued.
